InFlow Charging & Maintenance Guide

Overview

InFlow requires two types of routine maintenance:

  1. Charging — every 3 to 8 weeks, when the battery runs low
  2. Humidity Maintenance — every 3 to 6 months, to prevent performance degradation

Both are straightforward and take only a few minutes of hands-on time (plus waiting periods). Staying on top of this routine will significantly extend the life of your InFlow units.

Part 1: Charging

When to Charge

InFlow will signal when it needs charging:

Most customers in standard locker room environments charge every 3 to 8 weeks. In high-use or 24-hour environments, charging may be needed more frequently.

Pro tip: Once you've seen your first unit go to blue, you'll have a sense of the cycle time for your facility. Set a recurring reminder on that schedule — don't wait for units to die before charging.

How to Charge

Step 1 — Remove the InFlow Cartridge

Keep the InFlow Cup attached to the urinal. Put on a gloved hand and grip the InFlow Cartridge (the sensor part). Pull upward to detach it from the cup — it's held in place by magnets, so it releases easily.

Step 2 — Rinse and Dry

Bring the cartridge to the sink. Rinse it under clean water, gently rubbing the lens and metal sensor pin with a gloved hand to remove any residue. Do not use chemical cleaners on the cartridge. Pat it dry with a clean towel or paper towel.

Step 3 — Wirelessly Charge

Magnetically attach the InFlow Charger to the front of the InFlow Cartridge. Place the charging base on a flat surface, plugged directly into the wall outlet using the provided adapter plug.

Step 4 — Reinstall

Once charged, press the cartridge back into the cup in the urinal. It will click into place magnetically.

Charging Safety Rules

Important: Lithium batteries can be hazardous. Never place InFlow in the trash. For device disposal or recycling, contact support@intake.health.

Part 2: Humidity Maintenance

Why Humidity Maintenance Matters

InFlow lives in a restroom — one of the most humid environments possible. Over time (typically 8–12 months in a standard locker room), moisture vapor permeates the device's plastic housing and accumulates inside. This internal humidity degrades the battery and can impair sensor performance.

The good news: this is fixable and preventable. Performing the humidity maintenance process every 3 to 6 months keeps your units running like new.

If you've noticed your InFlow isn't working as expected — shorter battery life, erratic readings, or a unit that has "died" — humidity buildup is the most likely cause. The maintenance process below can often revive a unit that appears dead.

When to Perform Humidity Maintenance

Humidity Maintenance Process

You'll need the InFlow Maintenance Kit (included with lease units; available from Intake Health for purchased units). The kit contains a ZipLock bag and desiccant packet(s).

Step 1 — Remove and Clean

Remove InFlow from the urinal. Clean it with mild detergent and a gloved hand or soft brush. Do not charge at this point.

Step 2 — Dry Completely

Dry InFlow thoroughly. Leave it out in a dry room for 24 hours to ensure it is fully air-dried before proceeding.

Step 3 — Dehumidify

Place the dry InFlow unit in the ZipLock bag with the included desiccant packet. Seal the bag completely and leave it for 72 hours (3 days). The desiccant will draw out the accumulated internal moisture.

Step 4 — Recharge and Reinstall

After 72 hours, remove InFlow from the bag and place it on the wireless charger. Once charged, reinstall in the urinal.

Desiccant Packet Care

The desiccant packets in the maintenance kit can be reused. To refresh a used packet:

  1. Bake the packets at 200°F (93°C) for 90 minutes with the oven door slightly open.
  2. Remove and let cool in a sealed container to prevent re-absorption of room moisture.
  3. Store in a sealed ZipLock bag until next use.

Alternatively, replacement 30g desiccant packets can be purchased online or requested from Intake Health.

Part 3: Routine Cleaning

Weekly: Rinse InFlow with clean water.

As needed: InFlow can be sprayed with non-HCL-based cleaners if rinsed off immediately. Always check cleaner labels — hydrochloric acid (HCL) is found in many commercial toilet bowl cleaners and will damage InFlow.

Never use:

Provide the custodial care card (included in packaging) to whichever staff member cleans the restrooms where InFlow is installed.

Lease Program: Maintenance-Free Option

If managing charging and humidity maintenance feels like too much overhead, the InFlow Lease Program eliminates this burden entirely. Under the lease program, Intake Health sends fresh, fully maintained units on a regular rotation (every 3–6 months). You return the old units using the provided return kit — no charging, no desiccant, no maintenance on your end.

See Returns & Lease Program for details.
